Community News – 

We are always delighted to get involved with a wide variety of community events around the local and surrounding areas and this Autumn is no exception.

Four members of our staff ran the Great North Run on 8 September with another two colleagues completing the Macmillan Mighty Hike – Northumberland on 14 – 15 September.

We were delighted to support Glendale Show, Holm Show near Newcastleton and the British Horse Society’s Blair Castle International Horse Trials.

The newly formed Berwick Rangers Junior Lionesses benefitted from some new training kit for the season ahead.

Through our own Staff Community Outreach Initiative, we have supported:

Berwick Darts League, nominated by Andrew Blair

Berwick Rangers Juniors Wolves U7s, nominated by Catriona Robertson & James Patterson

In October we continued our annual support of Berwick Literary Festival and the month saw the end of our support of the successful Summer exhibition, Lowry and the Sea at The Granary Gallery.

We are once again supporting the hugely popular Berwick Christmas Loyalty Scheme, managed by Berwick Chamber of Trade. The scheme started on the 28 Oct and runs until the end of the 31 December 2024.

As always, we are delighted to welcome new members of staff to our growing team. In August, Rebecca Richmond joined us as Wealth Admin Administrator based at our Three Counties Office. Along with Peter Benson and Joanne Wightman who both joined our Berwick Office as Accounts Technicians.

Matt Brown joined our Wealth Team as a Financial Adviser and Mitchell Tait joined the Tax Team as a Trainee Tax Assistant in October.

Lesley Clark left our HR team in September and Associate Lindsay Dalgliesh left at the end of October. We wish them both all the best for the future!

Spring Statement 2025 – Review

Yesterday, Chancellor Rachel Reeves delivered her Spring Statement. We have sifted through the details and hope the following review, which we feel will be the most significant to our clients, will be helpful.

HMRC to close their online accounts and tax filing service

HMRC have issued guidance confirming that from 31 March 2026 their online filing service for company accounts and tax returns will close.

Side hustle sales threshold raised to £3,000

Further information has been released by the Government on the increase in the trading allowance rate and when this will come into effect, but beware; the £3,000 is not a tax relief increase, only an administrative increase.
