GWA in numbers

2018 marks 100 years since we were established in Berwick-upon-Tweed as a branch office of the Newcastle firm Greaves & Armstrong accountants. Being accountants, we like numbers. So, in celebration of our centenary, we thought we would prepare a profile of the firm in numbers to give an idea of who we are and what we do. Some of these numbers will literally change by the minute, but the figures below give a fair reflection of the position at the time of this article.

1            Our ambition to be a leading regional professional firm.
2            Our locations – in Berwick-upon-Tweed & Haddington.
10.84     The percentage our cautious portfolio outperformed against its benchmark in the last 3 years.
12          The number of Partners.
12          The number of dedicated professional staff in our wealth management department.
12          The number of specialist accounts staff in our Agricultural accounts team.
21          The number of specialist staff in our tax support team.
26          How many of our staff that are currently training for professional qualification.
56          The percentage of fee earning professional staff who are female.
100        The number of years since we were established in Berwick-upon-Tweed.
105        The total number of staff (117 including partners).
238        The combined years of partner experience in general practice.
267        The number of our trust clients.
500+      How many PCs and service networks our dedicated IT team look after at 47 locations.
561        The number of our Farm and Estate clients.
645        How many limited companies we act for.
2,659     How many employee payroll transactions are processed every month for 454 PAYE clients.
3,907    The number of Self Assessment Tax Returns filed for the 2016/17 tax year.
£152M  The 2017 turnover of our largest Audit client.
£300M  The value of funds under guidance and advice from our wealth management team.

We don’t have exact statistics for the geographic spread of clients. However approximately 55% are on the English side of the Border, 45% on the Scottish side and a few based abroad.

100 years is a long time. Although industry practices have changed immensely since 1918 we aim to maintain the traditional professional values that the firm was founded on and build on our long-established reputation for providing Quality Advice and Quality Service.

We plan to mark our centenary in a variety of ways over the coming months – we will keep you posted.
