Partner promotion for David Renton

We are delighted to announce that David Renton has been promoted to Partner on 1 May 2023.

David Renton

David began his career with GWA in 2000. Having already acquired his degree in Accountancy and Finance he qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 2009. David is now the Head of GWA’s Corporate Services team, where he plays a pivotal role in ensuring we keep up to date with ever changing regulations.

Outside of the workplace, David has a keen interest in sport, particularly football and rugby. A local and coming from Eyemouth, he played rugby for Eyemouth White Horses and was involved in setting up the club as well as serving on the committee. David is also kept busy in his spare time by his two sons and is currently enjoying being a coach at Berwick RFC, where his sons play rugby. He also enjoys watching his youngest son play football for Chirnside, weekends can be very busy trying to fit all of this in.

Commenting on his appointment David said, “It is a pleasure to be part of the GWA team and to contribute to our continued growth and success. A lot of our clients have been with us for many years, some for generations, and I am looking forward to building and extending those relationships and continuing our reputation of delivering quality advice.”

Spring Statement 2025 – Review

Yesterday, Chancellor Rachel Reeves delivered her Spring Statement. We have sifted through the details and hope the following review, which we feel will be the most significant to our clients, will be helpful.

HMRC to close their online accounts and tax filing service

HMRC have issued guidance confirming that from 31 March 2026 their online filing service for company accounts and tax returns will close.

Side hustle sales threshold raised to £3,000

Further information has been released by the Government on the increase in the trading allowance rate and when this will come into effect, but beware; the £3,000 is not a tax relief increase, only an administrative increase.

What happens if you can’t pay your tax bill?

If you are a taxpayer and you are concerned that you cannot pay your tax bill on time, you have the option to set up an online “time to pay” arrangement with HMRC.  This means you can spread the cost of you tax bill over a period of 6-12 months, helping improve cash flow.
