Payroll Administrator

We have an exciting opportunity in our friendly Payroll team for an enthusiastic administrator.

The Role:
Working within a small but extremely productive team of four, you will deliver payroll services to our wide range of clients. You will be working with businesses from a range of sectors including agricultural, retail, manufacturing, property and charities whose turnovers span from those of entrepreneurial start-ups to multi million-pound organisations.

You will be required to provide an accurate and timely end to end payroll service for our clients, from setting up new clients, processing the payroll itself and calculating statutory payments pension contributions and salary sacrifice schemes.

You will also be comfortable liaising with clients on a regular basis to request all necessary information to process payrolls, as well as communicating with HMRC and other third parties to resolve queries.

To ensure we provide our clients the best payroll service possible, you will need to keep up to date with payroll legislation and related industry changes. You will also be required to work as a proactive member of the payroll team and take joint responsibility for team goals, as well as maintain a positive relationship with our wider tax and accountancy teams.

The Candidate:
The role would suit someone who already has comprehensive knowledge of payroll legislation and a minimum of 5 years previous experience of working in a similar position and preferably a CIPP qualification.  Other skills required include:

  • an in-depth knowledge of Payroll Software including IRIS, Xero, Sage, HMRC basic PAYE tools
  • strong organisation and time management skills with the ability to meet challenging deadlines
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills with a professional and helpful telephone manner
  • attention to detail and the ability to self-review work
  • be highly customer focused
  • motivation to achieve individual and team objectives
  • the ability to identify and support continuous improvement opportunities
  • a willingness to learn

The role is based at our Berwick-upon-Tweed office and we would also consider a flexible mix of remote/home to office working for the right candidate.
